Microneedling

Microneedling, sometimes called collagen induction therapy, is a minimally invasive procedure that uses a specialized device equipped with very fine, sterile needles. These needles create microscopic injuries in the skin’s surface that trigger the body’s natural repair process.

As the skin heals, it produces new collagen and elastin fibers. Over time, this remodeling process can improve skin quality, reduce imperfections, and create a smoother, healthier complexion.

Microneedling can be performed on many areas of the body, but it is most commonly used on the face, neck, chest, and hands.

Microneedling is a versatile treatment that can improve a wide range of cosmetic skin concerns. One of the most common reasons patients seek microneedling is to improve acne scars. The treatment helps remodel scar tissue and stimulate collagen production beneath the skin, which can soften the appearance of depressed or uneven scars.

When the tiny needles create controlled micro-injuries in the skin, the body responds by sending healing cells to the treated area. This process occurs in several stages.

Next, new collagen and elastin fibers are produced. These proteins provide structure and support to the skin.

Before the procedure begins, the skin is thoroughly cleansed. A topical numbing cream is typically applied to improve comfort during treatment.

Once the skin is numb, the microneedling device is passed across the treatment area. The provider adjusts the needle depth based on the condition being treated and the location of the skin.

Most treatments take approximately 30 to 60 minutes depending on the size of the area being addressed. After treatment, the skin may appear pink or red, similar to a mild sunburn. Some patients also experience mild swelling, tightness, or sensitivity.

Microneedling results develop gradually because the treatment relies on the body’s natural collagen production process.

Some patients notice brighter, smoother skin within a few weeks. However, collagen remodeling continues for several months following treatment.
